Nastassja and Oskar's amazing Universal trip

Stash - This is the day Universal becomes famous, enjoying roller coasters and wicked shows going upside down and tipping in your seat, we begin:

Osk - we went on some amazing rollercoasters, one of them a Shrek dragon ride, it was only a couple of seconds but it went very, very, very fast. There was another roller coaster which was an egyptian one and in one bit you went so fast down the hill you flew into the air.

We watched a water show that was amazing and we saw an aeroplane that crashed into the water and we got soaked! They drove the jet ski under the water and there was gun shots and explosions.

Stash - my favourite ride was the egyptian mummy ride which was an indoor rollercoaster, we went on it 7 times, because it wasn't busy. It was so good because it was scary, it was different to any other rollercoaster I have ever been on, in every single way. It didn't seem scary at first, but then it pulled you down and backwards so fast.

The shows were quite good, my favourite one was the Shrek 4D, when donkey sneezed you got splashed with watery snot! And the scariest bit was when there were jumping spiders creeping at your feet.

Osk - We were lucky because they gave us free vouchers to buy toys, we bought twin penguins. We had a brilliant day!

Stash - the day was so good we wanted to stay for an other day, but unfortunately we had other things to do.

Greetings from Singapore

Singapore.Lovely, clean, polite, safe, hassle free Singapore.Family Leith arrived here on 5th October and spent three wonderful days and four beautiful nights here.Singapore Zoo has to be one of the most brilliant places you could ever visit,we had the whole day there yesterday.
Anyway,Nastassja and Oskar are writing blogs for this as part of their "schooling" for today.Until they tear themselves away from the on board entertainment, housed in their seating compartments on this very impressive bus bound for Kuala Lumpa, some pics...

Volcano part 2

...completely in love...

Bonsai banana trees, chilli plantations and a huge smoke billowing volcano, now that's a good Sunday lunchtime.
Tomorrow,Liz and the kids are doing a batik course,a full day running from 9.30 ish till 5,the location being a batik exhibition we visited a couple of days ago.Batik aplenty,it's like some potato printing scam. One guy prints 'em up and puts them in his little shop where the next guy buys them up and puts them in his "exhibition" where he beckons suckers like us to come and buy them at three times the price.

"which one do you like?"
Liz likes a small red one.I couldn't give a shit but I say I like a large green one.
"yea,it has so much energy doesn't it?"
I think we should go now.
"yea, every time you look at the picture you will see something different, buy them both,I promise you'll not regret it"
Hopefully though,the Leith family
will turn out some amazing work.

Crossing the road here in Yogamalinastrogarlicmum is something of a pain in the arse, still not really sure how it works even on what appears to be a zebra crossing, they still hurtle towards you from both sides.Yesterday a policeman held the traffic up to allow us to cross, the lovely traffic policeman.
Then we took a couple of these bike taxi things back to our hotel spot and the rain came down and washed the spiders out.

Another place we visited was the remains of the Water castle and it's catacombs.A Sultan's Harem then.

Mr.Sultan had forty wives.Basically he used to make them strip off to their bikinis and get in the water. Then he'd throw a flower in and whoever it landed nearest would get to show him their boobies and much more that night.

These days there is still a Sultan here, though he only has one wife.

Volcano and chilli part 1

Jonny from Sumatra is our driver today.Yesterday he was Oskar's barber,he runs his own hairdressing salon close to our hotel.Today,Elizabetty rather fancied a trip to a temple but i'v won the toss so we're off to see another volcano,it's name is Merapi and it is Indonesia's most active.
Four years ago it erupted and ignoring government warnings, two people who'd stayed around for the fireworks were killed in the bunker built specially for such an occasion, when they were unable to lock the door behind them.

Today,Merapi isn't about to erupt, though you're not allowed to get that close to it.It is pretty lively,in fact you can't see the top third of it for the smoke billowing from it.

Jonny has only limited time to take us round today, his wife wants him back at 2pm for prayer,so things are a little rushed.

Driving us back,he tells us that opposite his salon there's a stall that sets up in the evening selling dog meat with chilli,"don't eat, make worms!!"
He says you can often get hedgehog, snake("very nice like beef"),horse, frog, rabbit and fried gecko which is very good for asthma.
Picking up on my love of chilli,he pulls over to show us a chilli plantation, thousands of beautiful deep red chilli peppers!

Stewardess,lovely.

We seek the help of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful...Who has bestowed upon us the will and ability to use this aircraft, without Whom we are helpless.  Verily, God alone we worship and to God alone we shall return.

Ooh!It's a little propellor plane, our first ride on a little propellor plane!  This lovely little plane with extremely handsome staff, cost us a mere 21 and a half quids and took only 70 minutes to get us to Java 10 minutes after we left.

We boarded a coach and started a three hour journey which took us a bit closer to where we were headed, a mighty volcano called Gunung bromo, situated in Cemoro Lawang.  However, we still had some 26 kilometres to go.
Over my first cup of Java in a tiny cafe type affair, some local guys offered to take us the rest of the way, the offer starting at 100Rp and gradually rising to 300.  If they could fill the bus we'd get the cheaper deal, otherwise...anyway,  after some thirty odd minutes sat in the back of this small transit I asked how long the driver thought it would be before he got enough passengers to make him want to move and he said he really had no idea and why don't we go in the morning instead.
Taking full control of the situation for the first time in some 90 minutes we pulled all our luggage from the van and walked back along the road towards a hotel, chased by a couple of guys saying,"ok, sorry, two hundred, please!  "But actually i massively had the arse by then and it was too late.  Within minutes we arrived at a hostel run by friendly staff and got a room which they stuck an extra bed in so that we could all snore under one lovely great big air con.
The guy on reception reminded us that if you're a tourist a lot of people around here will try and double the price of most things on offer.
Today, refreshed albeit for another blast from those singing ringing towers at 4am, we will complete our journey to the smoking mountain.

A couple of days ago in Kuta, Bali, Liz had one of these weird foot spa things that are full of little fish who suck away and eat all the dead skin.  Stash and Osk also had the pleasure for a few minutes.

Who should we bump into yet again but Arjen and Maaetje from the Komodo boat hell trip!
